Welcome to the course 4 Urban Regeneration and Reconstruction. This course is part of the Competence Platform for Integrated Urban Development and Reconstruction in Ukraine. Further information on the Competence Platform can be found here.
Over the span of 8 weeks, this course will provide a thorough examination of strategies and tools for creating livable, resilient, and inclusive urban environments. Distinguished experts from academia and practice bring their diverse expertise from international projects to offer a critical analysis of the prevailing urban challenges we face today.
Learning Objectives
At the end of the course, participants will have gained a deeper understanding of the reasons, purpose and goals of urban regeneration and the reconstruction of destroyed or neglected urban areas. Building on a brief historical overview, the most important strategies and theoretical foundations will be taught. The recommended strategies are developed both in terms of their urban theory foundations and their individual strategic elements, and illustrated using various case studies from different countries. Particular aspects of urban regeneration and reconstruction that are particularly relevant today and especially important in Ukrainian cities are explored in separate chapters. The tools for urban regeneration and reconstruction are systematically presented in the final chapter. These are equally relevant for the various challenges and contexts of the topic of this course. By successfully completing this course, participants will be able to approach relevant tasks in a systematic way, formulate core aspects and guidelines as well as objectives, and work on suitable measures and projects to solve problems.
